Beginning Weaving
Beginning weaving students can approach weaving from either of two directions. Traditional - This approach is for those who want to learn to weave to make great stuff like scarves, table linens, clothes, and general all around heirloom pieces. Students who already have a loom but want to improve their skills or take a refresher course are encouraged to attend. Art - For those interested in making things with fibers, trying something new, and playing in a relaxed atmosphere for a week can consider this approach. Or For those thinking about weaving and would like to experiment with texture and color to see if they want to make a further commitment (or not) to weaving. Either way, you will have some finished pieces to display proudly. Both classes will include basic weaving skills:
planning and winding a warp, dressing the loom, basic pattern structures,
winding and throwing a shuttle. The initial cost of the warp is included in
the tuition. "Overachievers" can bring yarns from home or purchase
studio yarns at cost. Because the class size is kept small, individuals can
pinpoint exactly the direction they want their work to follow by making arrangements
with Geri ahead of time. |
